Nets-Students Digital Library-- Navigating by Landmarks

Who was using the technology, students or teacher?
The students were using the technology to get better acquainted with how to navigate and use MapQuest and other tools to help them gain familiarity with using the internet to get from place to place. How was class management maintained?
She first described what they were going to do, and then she led the kids through the directions that helped them understand what they need to do. The kids seemed like they really were enjoying themselves. How was the technology integrated into the lesson plan?
They started by designing their own map and then they compared their map to the one on the computer. This helped the kids get a better idea of how to draw a map, as well as following directions. Was the focus on the technology or on the subject?
I think that the focus was on using technology to teach the subject. It was used to help the kids see that they can estimate directions and then use the internet to confirm the directions. Did the teacher follow any of your "rules of thumb"?
The teacher did a real good job of giving the students a background into what they would be using. She also made it apply to real life situations. She did a good job of making technology fit into the lesson plan. What barriers do you think might have made using technology in this lesson difficult?
It might be hard to keep track of where all of the kids are at and how far a long they are. It would be hard to make sure that all of the kids are keeping up and follow along. How could you overcome these barriers?
You could assign the kids buddies to make sure that they were grasping the assignment and helping them teach each other. What other technologies or methods could have been used instead?
I think that they could draw their own map, then look at a real map, and then use the internet so they could get a better idea of all of the resources available to them.
How could you teach this same lesson with limited access to technology? (For example, maybe in a one-computer classroom)
I think that showing the kids a demonstration and then have them find it on the map and then you could project it so that all of the kids could see, maybe even walk the distance and use the service and locate a local business. How could you use this same technology in your own teaching? What learning activities could this technology support?
When dealing with geography it would probably be really helpful to have the students gain familiarity with how to locate certain places and to be able to identify how to get to a number of different places. What other things should teachers be able to do with this technology?
I think that they could use these programs to help students get familiar with different locations of cities and places around the world. It could help them get familiar with how to locate a number of different spots and key cities in an area.

Great job on your assignment. The one problem is I don't know who else is in your group, so if you could post that it would be great! Thanks!
